excerpt from an article about ‘arbeitsvorgang’:
A well-known everyday situation is alienated down to the smallest detail,
the actors’ concentration decreases, perspectives shift, end: open.
An elderly man enters a kiosk and buys a pack of cigarettes from the cashier.
When the purchase is complete, the two gentlemen stare at each other for a while.
In terms of plot, nothing happens for a moment. But then you notice that the clothing
of the people has changed. Suddenly they are wearing the other person’s original clothing.
This seems to have switched roles. The cashier has thus become a customer and accordingly
buys the cigarettes. When asked for his ID, he presents a tree leaf. This is accepted.
But this is only the beginning of the bewildering extent that this film still holds in store for viewers.
